If you want to escape the city this Easter, why not spend some time in Bedfordshire? There are plenty of things to see and do across the county, including family friendly attractions, things that won’t break the bank and some delightfully Easter themed events. Whatever you are looking for to fill your days during the Easter break, you’ll find it here.

To really get into the Easter spirit, join the National Trust at Dunstable Downs. Not only do can you join in an Easter Egg hunt with prizes at the end but you can also take part in Orange Bowling – a new take on the 200 year old tradition of Orange Rolling. There is no booking needed and the price of the trail is £3 a child.

Dunstable Downs is around an hour and a half from Central London.

If the weather is good, head to the Forest of Marston Vale. The Forest Centre and Millennium Country Park is a great day out for the whole family, there are 18km of level, surfaced paths and a host of hides around the Wetlands Reserve so you can see if you can catch sight of some of the wildlife that calls the forest home. 

The Forest of Marston Vale is just under 2 hours from London, either by road or by using public transport.

One of the most popular places to visit is the village of Woburn with its Georgian buildings and its friendly atmosphere. After you’ve had a wander around, you can visit one of the many nearby attractions. Woburn Safari Park is a fun day out where you can see wild animals in an open space with free parking and lots of activities included in your ticket price. Go Ape Woburn is also at the safari park and offers plenty of things to do just an hour away from London, Oxford, Cambridge and Birmingham. Swing through the treetops while watching the wallabies and other creatures below.

If you’re fans of wildlife, there is also ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. Whipsnade Zoo is the UK’s biggest zoo and has over 600 acres, 3000 animals and plenty of events and activities to keep you entertained. There are a range of experiences you can get involved in including meeting the elephants, feeding the giraffes and more. Whipsnade Zoo is on the outskirts of Dunstable and is around an hour and a half from London.

Those of you who love history should definitely plan a trip to Shuttleworth, home of the collection, the Swiss Garden and the House. Based at Old Warden, just off the A1 in Biggelswade. The collection is a working collection of the best airworthy vintage aircraft in the UK. Here you’ll find genuine WWI aircraft, the oldest flying aircraft and a host of other exhibits. Shuttleworth is just two hours from Central London.
