Bedfordshire is well connected and boasts a fast, frequent rail service operating from all over the county into neighbouring London, Milton Keynes, the Midlands and onwards to the north and the south east.
There are three rail routes running through Bedfordshire.
Thameslink and Great Northern come into the county from London and connect with services from the north at Bedford Central. Services operated by London NorthWestern run through Milton Keynes and connect with a local service at Bletchley before continuing on through to Bedford.
The Thameslink services operate from the south coast, a popular route being the Brighton to Bedford service, which calls at both London Luton Airport and Gatwick Airport, meaning there is no need for travellers to go through London or change in the capital when using these through services. London Luton Airport has the fastest rail connection from Central London of any of the main London airports, taking only 22 minutes from St Pancras Station.
Luton Airport Parkway, which mainly serves the airport, can be found on the Midland Main line from London St Pancreas and offers direct trains to Bedford calling at Luton, Leagrave, Harlington, Flitwick and then Bedford itself from Thameslink. You can also get rail connections to St Albans, Wimbledon, Sutton, Gatwick Airport and Brighton.
From those travelling from the north, Bedfordshire is also on the Great Northern service which operates from Peterborough southbound or London Kings Cross northbound, this service calls at key places, such as Biggleswade and many of the other major towns in the county.
Overseas travellers wanting to use the rail network can take the Eurostar into London’s St Pancreas and then change to Kings Cross to catch a train to Bedfordshire.
Train times for travel across Bedfordshire and connections to other parts of the UK can also be checked through National Rail and Trainline where you can also buy tickets and check live updates.
