Dunstable Downs
Managed by the National Trust, the downs make up part of the Chiltern Hills and features breath-taking views as far as the eye can see. You’ll also find a host of well-maintained walking routes, so it is easy to get around and explore.
Woburn Abbey
Comprising of a manor house and 28 acres of gardens, this is a truly spectacular place to visit, especially if you want to take your camera for a spin. At certain times of year you can spot herds of deer roaming around – at last count there were nine different species that called the grounds home. There are also an array of artworks within the manor itself should you need any inspiration.
Wrest Park
While we’re on the subject of gorgeous country estates, Wrest Park is a must visit. Here you’ll find a sprawling manor house and 90 acres of gardens which have been landscaped to reflect the styles of three centuries. Wrest Park is known as being a popular tourist attraction and so is also a good option for those on a day out with the family.
Houghton House
The ruins of Houghton House provide a fascinating subject for photographs. The mansion was originally built in a mixture of classical and Jacobean style and is thought to have been the inspiration for the house in John Bunyan’s famous works.
Whipsnade Tree Cathedral
Perhaps one of the most unique places to visit in the county, Whipsnade Tree Cathedral features a host of different trees planted to reflect the size and shape of a medieval cathedral and features a cloister walk – all featuring trees.
