If you’ve found yourself with a delayed flight or maybe just a layover that is just too long to spend walking around the airport, here are some suggestions of things you can do to keep yourself entertained before your departure time.
For those of you who have kids to entertain or just those of you who don’t want to spend your day in the airport, head out to the UK’s biggest zoo, ZSL Whipsnade. Set over 600 acres on the picturesque Children Hills and home to almost 3,000 animals, this is a great day out, full of experiences and activities. The zoo is around 20 minutes from the airport by car or an hour train.

Just three miles away, which is around 10 minutes by car is Wardown House. This historic house is home to a museum and some lovely gardens which features the history of Luton and offers some green space to relax in before your connection or flight. Another place to while away the hours is Stockwood Discovery Centre, which is also only around 10 minutes from the airport. Here you can enjoy gardens, children’s play areas, a museum and art, all for free! The site is home to a rare medieval jug, the town’s last tram and an award winning display of carriages. If you have the time to go a little further afield, Wrest Park is a popular visitor attraction and features 90 acres of land, as well as a beautiful stately home. It will take around half an hour to get there from the airport, so make sure to allow for plenty of time to get back for your flight. The gardens are surrounded by woodland and canals and there are lots of opportunities to do a spot of sight seeing. Visit - Wrest Park, Silsoe, Bedfordshire, MK45 4HR
For those days that are warm and sunny that you don’t want to spend inside, why not get out and enjoy some fresh air before your flight by visiting the Chilterns. Considering they are only a few miles outside London, they are an area of wide, open space that are completely unspoiled. They are just around half an hour from Luton airport. Visit - Houghton Regis, Dunstable LU5 5PX
