As the weather gets nicer, you might be tempted to head for the coast, but rather than join the hordes, why not enjoy a gentle stroll alongside some of the stunning riverside locations across Bedfordshire? There are a host of calming waterside walks you can explore over the summer months, whether you want to go with the family, the dog or just as a way to get away from it all.

Here are a couple of our favourite walking spots for you to enjoy this summer.

Tiddenfoot Waterside Park

This one can be busy, especially on a sunny day, but there is plenty of parking and has been landscaped to include a range of different riverside paths and grounds, ideal for picnics and more.

Bedford Embankment

In Bedford, you can walk along the Embankment just off the town centre for a lovely walk without having to venture too far out of civilisation. This is a great walk for anyone who loves catching sight of wildlife, along this walk you can find swans, ducks and geese and more. There are several routes you can take along here too, depending on how far you want to walk, you could even continue on and visit the Priory Country Park

Priory Country Park

We’ll include this one here as you can just head out here and enjoy a walk around the park, or you can tag it onto the end of your trek around the Embankment. The park is a former quarry much like Tiddenfoot Waterside Park and is now a nature reserve meaning it is a lovely peaceful place to spend a few hours. There are even places offering refreshments and lots of wildlife to enjoy in the sunshine.
