Visit the Whipsnade Tree Cathedral

Managed by the National Trust, this remarkable collection of trees planted into the shape of a cathedral isn’t just somewhere pretty to spend a few hours, it also has historical significance, with it being created as a symbol of peace after the 1st World War.

Go for a picnic


Bedfordshire is full of relaxing parks and greenspaces and having a picnic is a wonderful thing to do at this time of year if the sun is shining. Why not relax in Bedford Park, one of only three parks in the UK that has a green flag for cleanliness? There are lots of secluded spots for you to have a romantic picnic together and it’s a pretty place to spend some time.

Alternatively, visit Wardown Park, which has beautiful rows of stunning willow trees lined along the banks of the river and provides a peaceful place to spend a few hours.
For a leisurely stroll, take a trip to Swiss Garden and enjoy the beautiful Swiss Cottage, as well as the beautiful gardens. Stockgrove Country Park is another charming place to visit, full of woodland and lovely scenery, this is another great spot for a picnic.

Get lost in the wilderness

If you’re the kind of couple that likes getting back to nature and being out in the open, Bedfordshire is a great place to be on a date. Spend some time exploring the Forest of Marston Vale where there is an abundance of wildlife to enjoy as well as the great outdoors or the Lodge RSPB Nature Reserve where you can keep your eyes peeled for all manner of bird species as well as see if you can find the stone age settlements that were once in the area.

If you’re really up for a challenge, head out over Dunstable Downs. If your loved one is a fan of walking, you’ll love spending the day here exploring the landscape and taking in the far reaching views.

Feel nostalgic

It isn’t just countryside that you’ll find in abundance in Bedfordshire, it is also a county full of history. Date ideas for the history lovers in your life can include exploring the ruins at Houghton House, which is now an English Heritage property. You’ll find plaques around the ruins telling the story of the former residence and the views of the surrounding countryside are beautiful.
You could also opt for a guided tour around Jordans Mill, the gardens are free to enter and you get a real sense of time gone by while on site.
