Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal visited the Forest Centre and Millennium Country Park to dedicate the Forest of Marston Vale to the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.

The news that the Forest had been accredited by the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy project came in July following a recommendation to the Lord Lieutenant’s office, with the Princess Royal visiting in earlier in August.

The team made sure Her Royal Highness received a full tour as she was shown around the Millennium Country Park, the Sensory Garden and the Sand Martin Hide. She then unveiled a plaque in the new Forest Shelter and planted a tree to mark the accreditation beside the one planted by HM Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire to commemorate the Forest’s volunteers winning the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Jo Roberts, Community Engagement Officer for the Millennium Country Park, said: “We are really proud to have received a Royal Visit and to be dedicated as part of such an amazing global programme. Trees are the best home the planet has of reversing the climate crisis for future generations and it’s really encouraging that the Queen has brought together so many countries to celebrate and protect their forests.”

Everyone at the Forest would like to thank the Lord Lieutenant’s office for the recommendation to become part of the project.
