Keepers at Woburn Safari Park in Bedfordshire have announced the arrival of their first baby alpaca – also known as a ‘cria’. The new male, born to mum Lacquer in the new Alpaca Outpost enclosure, has been named Taco.

Tom Robson, Deputy Team Leader, Reserves said: “The team is really excited as it’s the first alpaca to be born at the Park, both cria and mum are doing really well. At the moment he looks like a cross between a giraffe and a sheep and his bright white fur makes him really stand out from the herd at Alpaca Outpost.”

With more of the alpaca herd’s females currently pregnant and expecting to deliver soon, hopes are high that Taco will be the first of several babies to arrive.

Visitors can meet and feed the alpaca herd by taking a ride on the Great Woburn Railway to the Alpaca Outpost, departing daily between 12pm and 5pm.
